Are HIV rapid tests reliable?<\/h3>\n

No HIV rapid test offers 100 % certainty. False-positive results (HIV-negative samples that are falsely displayed as positive) are possible. Incorrect storage or an expired expiry date can influence the results.<\/p>\n

How do I use a rapid HIV test correctly?<\/h3>\n

There are various self-tests on the market. Please refer to the package leaflet for the exact application. If you have any questions, we will be happy to advise you personally on site.<\/p>\n

What to do if the test result is reactive?<\/h3>\n

A reactive result shows two lines (control and test line), whereby the test line can be differently pronounced. As false-positive results also occur, a rapid test alone is not sufficient. An additional HIV antigen\/antibody test is recommended. If this test is positive, this indicates an HIV infection. In this case, contact the AIDS service organisation in your federal state.<\/p>\n

What does a negative test result mean?<\/h3>\n

A negative result is only reliable if there has been no HIV risk in the last 3 months and the test has been carried out correctly. Risks within the last 12 weeks are not detected by the rapid test. In this case, the test should be repeated after 12 weeks or an HIV antigen\/antibody test should be carried out.<\/p>\n

How do I know if I have used the test correctly?<\/h3>\n

A coloured control line must appear during the waiting time. If this is missing, the test has not been used correctly or is faulty. In such a case, the test should be repeated.
