Our visit to the bee colonies was an exciting and interesting experience. We had the opportunity to observe the hustle and bustle of the bees at close quarters. Adriana was particularly excited and eagerly searched for the queen. It was fascinating to see the bees working in perfect harmony and fulfilling their tasks. Despite our precautions, one of us was stung, which caused a brief moment of excitement. But this did not dampen our enthusiasm. Everything is surrounded by the bee box, which provides protection from the weather and enemies. A lid and ventilated base round off the structure. Before visiting bee colonies, several important measures must be taken to ensure the safety of both visitors and bees:<\/p>\n

  • Wear protective clothing<\/strong>Beekeeper's suit or at least a beekeeper's jacket, gloves and a veil protect against bee stings.<\/li>\n
  • Prepare smoker<\/strong>A bee smoker helps to calm the bees and mask their alarm odour.<\/li>\n
  • Calm behaviour<\/strong>Slow, calm movements are important so as not to frighten or irritate the bees.<\/li>\n
  • Health check<\/strong>People with bee sting allergies should have their medication ready and carry an EpiPen if necessary.<\/li>\n
  • Note the weather<\/strong>Visits should take place in dry, calm weather, ideally in the early afternoon when most of the bees are foraging.<\/li>\n
  • Respect for the bees<\/strong>Bees are important for the environment. Respect their habitats and work gently with the hives to minimise disturbance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
