The e-prescription
Since 1 July 2023, prescription-only medicines can only be dispensed in pharmacies with an e-prescription. The simpler prescription system introduced due to the pandemic will no longer be valid at the end of June. You can find more information on the Austrian Chamber of Pharmacists.
What exactly do you need to consider in future?
- Fact 1: The e-prescription can still be ordered by telephone from your doctor.
- Fact 2: Copies, faxes and e-mails are no longer accepted by the health insurance company.
- Fact 3: Medicines requiring authorisation must again be authorised in advance.
- Fact 4: The e-prescription can be redeemed in the pharmacy with the e-Card, as a paper prescription and via the “My SV app”. You can find more information here.
- Fact 5: E-prescriptions remain stored in the system for 1 month and can be retrieved during this time.

For this reason, we ask you to take your e-Card with you every time you visit our pharmacy. This also applies if you are picking up prescription medication for another person. The pharmacists cannot access the prescription without an e-Card.
