Tips and recommendations for your hike
For Austrians, hiking is their favourite leisure activity at 67%. The golden month of September in particular, with its mild, sunny days, also attracts less experienced hikers to mountains and alpine pastures. Here are our tips and recommendations:
- Degree of difficulty: The individual hiking routes in Austria are excellently developed and signposted, especially in tourist regions. Nevertheless, there are turn-offs that should not be underestimated. Uncertainty is a bad companion. Therefore, you should always pay attention to the colour code and signposting of the hiking route.
- Sturdy shoes: Even simple paths often lead through uneven terrain. Suitable footwear provides surefootedness and balance and minimises the risk of slipping or getting stuck.
- Sun protection: At higher altitudes in particular, the sun's rays are many times higher than in the lowlands. It is therefore important to apply sun cream with a high sun protection factor to exposed areas (face, neck, shoulders, arms) before the hike and not to do without headgear.

- Handling grazing livestock: Cows are usually used to the presence of humans. Nevertheless, caution is advised. Calm behaviour and no feeding attempts allow for a peaceful co-existence between grazing cattle and hikers.
- Respect for nature: We should always be aware that we are only guests of nature and that is how we should behave. Plants and the surrounding area should not be wilfully damaged, rubbish should not be disposed of in the countryside and animals should not be disturbed by loud noises or hectic movements.
- Sufficient provisions: Even short hikes cost the body energy. It is therefore important to ensure that you have adequate food and drink to quickly replenish your body with energy and fluids.
For the small appetite in between: Munzinger fruit slices (in various flavours)
Important electrolytes: Dr Böhm Magnesium Sport for stressed muscles - Small travelling pharmacy: Equipped for all eventualities (blister plaster, disinfectant, anthistamine, diarrhoea remedy, insect repellent, plaster, quick bandage, tweezers, cooling gel/spray, sunscreen)
Enjoy autumn to the full - with good preparation, every hike becomes a safe and unforgettable nature experience!
