Vienna Pride 2024
This year's Vienna Pride 2024 will take place from 25 May to 9 June. The highlight of Vienna Pride is the rainbow parade on 8 June, where countless visitors from different countries are expected to celebrate and demonstrate together. Another highlight of Vienna Pride is the Pride Run Vienna, where hundreds of participants will once again set an example for acceptance on 7 June.
Motto: Pride Is A Demonstration
After a four-year break, the Vienna Pride Village will take place again for the first time from 6 to 8 June on Rathausplatz. Over three days, community organisations, LGBTQIA+ artists and cooperation partners will present and invite visitors to experience LGBTQIA+ culture and support its causes. These events will be accompanied by numerous other Vienna Pride events. Click here for the official website of Vienna Pride.

History of the Pride
The Rainbow Parade, also known as Christopher Street Day (CSD), has its roots in the Stonewall Riots of 1969 in New York City. On Christopher Street, in the Greenwich Village neighbourhood, there was a bar called the Stonewall Inn, which was frequented by the LGBTQ+ community. Police raided bars frequented by the LGBTQ+ community and on 28 June 1969, a riot broke out when patrons of the Stonewall Inn fought back against police harassment.
These events are seen as the catalyst for the modern LGBTQ+ civil rights movement in the United States and around the world. One year after the Stonewall riots, the first Christopher Street Liberation Day took place in New York on 28 June 1970, a kind of protest march to commemorate the events of Stonewall and to stand up for the rights of LGBTQ+ people.
Since then, Christopher Street Day parades have spread around the world and are now celebrated as Pride parades in many cities. The parades have become a symbol of LGBTQ+ pride, visibility and the demand for equality. They also serve as a platform to draw attention to the rights and concerns of LGBTQ+ people and to stand up for acceptance and diversity. Every year, people of different sexual orientations and gender identities come together to celebrate and show solidarity at these parades.
